Major country mission of Somdej Phra Narai Maharaj

One of the most important festivals, which is very noisy with a reputation, in to Lopburi province, is the popular festival called the “Major country Mission of Somdej Phra Narai Maharaj”. This festival was first organized in 1979 and is held annually in February of each year. Why choose February? Because Somdej Phra Narai Maharaj was born in this month and he was also the King of Ayutthaya who has brought greast prosperity to Lopburi province.

In fact, the original concept of this festival celebrations has been going since 1958. Lopburi people call this festival “Ngan Nai Wang” (work inside the palace). The objective in organizing this festival was initially to raise money to build a Somdej Phra Narai Maharaj monument. The festival itself, later became a major important grand event for Lopburi people, even today. Activities, both day and night for people to participate in at the event venue of Phra Narai Palace, can be an unforgettable experience. One of the most distinctive and possibly the most highlighted part, is that local people who attend this event, are all wearing traditional Thai costumes. A costumes competition, as well as a parade refer to important events in history and the expatriates who used to come to establish diplomatic relationships with His Majesty the King, can also be seen from here.

Apart from that, tourists will also get a chance to witness a light and sound showcase including Thai classical dance, the ancient way of life, methods of a typical Thai house area setting, composing a poem, verse, and rhyme etc., By the way, there are also shops selling OTOP products such as Thai fabrics and accessories, and candy reflecting the Somdej Phra Maharaj period.
