Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat  

            From its name you can probably tell how important and enormous this temple would be? This is because no matter  where Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Thailand is situated, the temple is still as important as a first priority. According to Wat Phra Sri in Lopburi it is an ancient historical site that comes along with a mysterious history, because there is no evidence to clarify in which year the temple was built. Having been through many renovated occasions resulting arts and architecture to meld into different shapes and forms including the Khmer pagoda, Thai sanctuary, a complete building which believed to be a pavilion for Somdej Phra Narai to change his costume and perform an auspicious religious ceremony. According to Prang Pra Tan which is situated behind the temple and is assumed to be built during 2 different periods. The first one is Phra Prang in Khmer style, built almost in the same period as Phra Prang Sam Yot before it collapsed. The second one is a newly built Phra Prang on an original base under Thai arts. Which later was used as an original format in building Phra Prang in Thailand elsewhere.  

            The area inside the temple campus, today is limited due to the surrounding community, but the atmosphere didn’t disappear as time goes by. This could well be one of the highlighted ancient historical sites not to be missed when visiting Lopburi.

            This temple is situated opposite Lopburi Railway and is roughly about 500 meters away from Phra Prang Sam Yot. Open daily from 8.30 a.m.- 4.00 p.m. Entry fees 10 baht. For Thai citizens it is free of charge announced by Fine Arts Department until further notice.
